    • Memphis is situated in the state of Tennessee. In terms of population it is the largest city in the state of Tennessee. The city is located on the banks of the mighty Mississippi river. Memphis is considered the musical city of the world as it is the birthplace of rock n roll music. It was founded in 1818.
      Although Memphis is a modern city it has many places displaying its rich history and culture. The National Civil Rights Museum is a place of special interest among tourists as it is located at the site of assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Other museums in the city are the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, the Peabody Place Museum and the Children's Museum of Art.
      The blues, Jazz and rock n roll music is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Memphis. There are many night clubs and other places in the city providing evidence of the wonderful musical heritage of the city. But the most famous location in city for both music lovers and even for the people remotely interested in music is the Graceland. It is the mansion of the great and legendary Elvis Presley, considered around the world as” the King of Pop and Rock n Roll”. It is flocked by more than 600,000 tourists every year. The mansion offers wonderful glimpses of his exotic Jungle room and his gold leafed piano. It also houses the gold and platinum records of Elvis Presley, his costumes and other memorabilia like Carpet houses and his legendary Pink Cadillac. Across the street there stands a hotel named after the famous Elvis hit, Heartbreak Hotel.
      Other key attractions in the city are the Pink Palace Museum and Planetarium, Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum, the Memphis Walk of Fame, Pink Palace Museum and the Victorian Museum.
      There are enormous malls in the city of Memphis along with a large flea market. There are also several art galleries and antique stores. Memphis offers a thrilling dining with its rich entertainment. It offers a tremendous culinary experience with its cuisine comprising of traditional American fare and regional specialties as well as many varied cuisines from around the world and its barbecue sandwiches.
      Memphis has a weather which is frequently changing but the city rarely has any extreme climate. The climate is subtropical with four distinct seasons.
      All major international and domestic airlines operate from the Memphis International Airport (MEM). The city is also connected to a major inter-state highway. The Memphis Area Transit (MATA) operates public bus system.
